WASHINGTON Reps. Dean, Scanlon, Wild, and Houlahan, cosponsored a resolution recognizing the importance of the Justice Bell in the women’s suffrage movement.

The resolution formally:

  • Commemorates the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment and recognizes the Justice Bell as a symbol for women's suffrage
  • Recognizes the contributions the Justice Bell made in raising awareness and support for women’s suffrage

??“As we celebrate 100 years of Women's Suffrage, we honor the Justice Bell and its ability to generate support for women’s suffrage. With this resolution, we also recognize the importance of our right to vote and our need to protect that right for all people regardless of socioeconomic status, gender, sexuality, etc.,” said Rep. Dean.

The Justice Bell was created by a member of the PA Woman Suffrage Association and closely replicates the Liberty Bell. The Justice Bell was driven to 67 Pennsylvania counties in 1915 to raise awareness for women’s suffrage and today is on display in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

Rep. Madeleine Dean is a mother, grandmother, attorney, professor, former four-term member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and U.S. Representative for the Fourth District of Pennsylvania.
