EAST NORRITON — PennEnvironment and state Sen. Amanda Cappelletti were joined by the office of Congresswoman Madeleine Dean Saturday May 11 to host a clean energy expo promoting renewable energy solutions for Montgomery County.
The expo gave local residents the opportunity to explore the tools they can implement to promote clean energy and fight climate change in their own homes and that are being used across Montgomery County.
“Powering our lives with clean, renewable energy will reduce harmful air pollution, save consumers money, and combat climate change,” said Flora Cardoni, field director at PennEnvironment. “We’re happy to see the growth of the renewable energy sector throughout Montgomery County, and appreciate the leadership of Congresswoman Dean and Senator Cappelletti in championing a clean energy future.”
Attendees met with representatives from a dozen local environmental businesses and advocacy organizations, whose missions ranged from solar installation to energy efficiency to gardening. Local sustainability experts gave advice on installing solar panels, buying renewable electricity, and tips on purchasing an electric vehicle.
Exhibitors also briefed attendees on the clean energy and energy efficiency opportunities available to local residents through Inflation Reduction Act programs.
“The Inflation Reduction Act is an historic investment in our climate, which will carry us to a cleaner, greener future — and it’s vital that our communities are informed about its resources, such as the clean energy tax credits,” Dean said. “It takes partnerships at every level — from local and state elected officials to advocacy groups — for us to fulfill this promise in Pennsylvania and beyond.”
Cappelletti spoke to attendees about the need for stronger state-level clean energy and climate policies.
“We’ve made a lot of progress on addressing climate change in the last few years. And that’s something to be proud of. But we know there is more work to be done, especially at the state level where we can make a big difference by passing better, bolder policies,” said Cappelletti.
The event attendees, speakers, exhibitors, and business leaders reaffirmed their commitment to fight climate change and bring about a 100% renewable energy future in the Keystone State in order to ensure a livable climate for future generations of Pennsylvanians and residents of Montgomery County.
Exhibitors included: Climate Action PA, The Energy Co-op, Solar States, CLEAResult for PECO Energy Assessments, Altair EcoVillage, Clean Energy Co-op, Hammer & Bell co, Ready for 100% Clean Energy Montco PA, NuWatt Energy, The Climate Reality Project: Philadelphia and Southeastern PA Chapter, and electric vehicles organized through Rick Denzien and Drive the Future EV.
