WASHINGTON, D.C. — At the close of Gun Violence Awareness Month, Congresswoman Madeleine Dean (PA-04) introduced a slate of bills to prevent gun violence and protect our communities, including:

  • The Undetectable Firearms Modernization Act to keep ghost guns out of our communities;

  • The Background Check Point of Contact Act to help states ensure their background check processes are effective;

  • The Protect Children Through Safe Gun Ownership Act to create requirements and education programs for safe firearm storage;

  • The Fire Sale Loophole Closing Act to close a loophole that allows people to avoid background checks;

  • The Gun Records Restoration and Prevention Act to ensure the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) maintains proper records and data; and

  • The Gun Violence Prevention Through Financial Intelligence Act to utilize financial crime prevention tools to predict and prevent mass shootings and terrorist attacks.

“As lawmakers, we have a responsibility to keep our communities — and especially our children — safe,” Rep. Dean said. “Yet the leading cause of death for minors in the U.S. is gun violence. We cannot accept that. This set of meaningful reforms, which improve background checks, close gun sale loopholes, and require safe gun storage, ensure we use every tool at our disposal to curb the gun violence epidemic and save lives.”

Congresswoman Dean previously introduced five of these bills in the 118th Congress — two date back to her first term in the 116th Congress.

Rep. Madeleine Dean is a mother, grandmother, attorney, professor, former four-term member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and U.S. Representative for the Fourth District of Pennsylvania.
