Today, the House passed Congresswoman Madeleine Dean’s H.R. 7952, Valley Forge Park Realignment Permit and Promise Act, which would allow the Secretary of the Interior to permit the safe movement of a natural gas pipeline segment in Valley Forge National Historical Park.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is working to realign and repave a road that runs through Valley Forge National Historical Park’s entrance. Part of the project requires moving current utilities to under a new roadbed. While the park can permit the movement of other utilities, like electric or broadband, they are barred by statute from permitting the movement of the segment of natural gas pipeline also under the current roadbed.
“I’m grateful to Valley Forge Park Planners and my colleagues in the House for passing the Valley Forge Park Realignment Permit and Promise Act,” Rep. Dean said. “This bipartisan bill is a straightforward and commonsense way to ensure park improvements without further delay — allowing for improved connectivity and aesthetic for visitors of this historic treasure.”
Congresswomen Dean introduced the Valley Forge Park Realignment Permit and Promise Act with Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06) and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) in June; a Senate companion bill was introduced by Senator Bob Casey.
It now goes to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
