WASHINGTON, DC. — Last night, Congresswoman Madeleine Dean (PA-04) and Senator Casey led a letter along with their Pennsylvania Congressional colleagues urging President Biden to approve Governor Tom Wolf’s major disaster declaration request.

Last week, Tropical Depression Ida devastated Pennsylvania with storms, tornados, and massive flooding. Federal, state, and local officials have taken measure of the significant human and physical damage – the storm killed five residents, knocked out power for 110,000 customers, caused well over $100 million in damage to public infrastructure, and destroyed many homes.  And many people lost everything.

“Historic rain and flooding devastated our communities,” Rep. Dean said. “I have been to these neighborhoods and spoke to residents that lost everything--It is clear that our district and this region need federal help to rebuild.”

If approved by the President, the major disaster declaration would enable direct federal assistance to Pennsylvania for recovery efforts.

The letter was signed by Representative Fitzpatrick, Cartwright, Evans, Lamb, Boyle, Scanlon, Wild, Houlahan, Doyle, and Senator Casey. A copy of the letter can be found here.

Rep. Madeleine Dean is a mother, grandmother, attorney, professor, former four-term member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and U.S. Representative for the Fourth District of Pennsylvania.
