Glenside, PA — Last Week, Rep. Dean released her public comments on the EPA's Preliminary Regulatory Determinations Report of February 2020.
Mr. Andrew Wheeler of the Environmental Protection Agency was sent a copy of these comments to demand greater transparency and urge the EPA to act quickly by setting a Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for PFAS. PFAS — forever chemicals that have disproportionately impacted Montgomery County, due to contamination from the former Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove.
With new testing methods available, the EPA has the data to regulate PFAS under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). To minimize the impact of PFAS, Rep. Dean asked the EPA to set an MCL and PRG to non-detectable levels, much lower than the current Health Advisory Level (HAL) of 70 ppt . Additionally, Rep. Dean asked the EPA to hold water authorities and private water providers to non-detectable standards.
Rep. Dean urged constituents and elected officials to join her in making public comments on this report.
