The North Hills Community Association (NHCA), a 501 (c)(3) charitable outfit based in Abington Township, has received the Community Development Block Grant, Economic Development Initiative (EDI) to facilitate the North Hills revitalization project.

The grant offers funding for the Limekiln Pike and Mount Carmel Avenue Lighting Renewal Project, according to the rules set forth by the Honorable Chairman Tom Cole and the Honorable Ranking Member, Mike Quigley, of the Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, HUD, and Related Agencies.

Money will be used exclusively for restoration of existing lamp posts along the Limekiln Pike and Mt. Carmel corridor, which includes replacement of banner arms and banners, correction of deficient electrical receptacles, re-lamping, and replacement of existing LED light string with smart capabilities.

“By updating the lighting, the Association seeks to create a greater sense of place, which will contribute to walkable streetscapes that will increase foot traffic, allowing their local businesses to grow and thrive,” the NHCA said in a statement. “We are grateful to Madeleine Dean and her staff who have supported the Association’s endeavors and facilitated the grant’s process. The NHCA will continue its efforts to strengthen support from its businesses and residents to meet its revitalization goals.”

The NHCA is encouraging area residents to visit the NHCA’s Facebook page and join the association, as well as attend their inaugural meeting on Wednesday, April 24 at 7:00pm at Edge Hill Fire Company.
